Often danced within the same scenes as Swing, blues is not actually within the same style of dance. The term “Blues” encompass a whole family of dances stemming from African rhythms and movements which flourished in small juke joints and house parties, giving it the intimate characteristics which we see today. The evolution of blues dance is closely related to the blues music from which it gets its name and, like the music, has many different variations, each bringing a different experience to the dance. The blues step is generally a simple one or two step pattern with the most emphasis of the dance being on improvisation and partner connection. All are welcome! $40 students, $45 non-students, $10 drop-in fee. 8 weeks of classes, at 90 minutes per class.
