Solomon Douglas is a pianist and vocalist born and raised in Toronto, currently living in both Seattle and New York City but spending most of his time on the road. For over fifteen years, he has been one of the most enjoyed and in-demand bandleaders in the Lindy Hop and Blues dance worlds. His bands have played at past PLEXes in Winnipeg (2007 and 2012) and Edmonton (2008 and 2015). In 2006 he toured the United States and Japan as part of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Also an accomplished dance instructor, he has taught Lindy Hop, Blues dance, and Balboa, all over Canada and the United States, and in Australia, the UK, Ireland, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore.
Brennen Ernst is a multi-instrument, multi-genre phenomenon based in Boones Mill, Virginia, who studies and performs music composed and recorded in the first half of the twentieth century. His instruments include guitar, piano, and banjo, and his expertise includes swing, bebop, bluegrass, country, western swing, ragtime, and old time Appalachian music. Brennen tours full-time, playing banjo and piano with The Karl Shiflett and Big Country Show (a Texas bluegrass band), and playing guitar with swing bands led by Solomon Douglas, with Anna Cecilia and the Big Time, with the Perseverance Jazz Band, and with others. He has released one album as a guitarist and bandleader, and a second album of solo ragtime and stride piano music.
Jennifer Hodge is one of the most sought-after bassists in Vancouver, BC, working with both her own bands (Jen Hodge All Stars, Company B Jazz Band) and those of The Arntzen Family, Solomon Douglas, Bria Skonberg, and others. Comfortable in a huge variety of musical settings, Jen has performed all over Canada, the USA, France, Spain, China, and in the Caribbean, and appears on more than a dozen albums. She has directed and played with groups for CBC Radio and CTV, and is a regular at major swing dance events all over the Northwest. Jen has a profound love for making music with other people and for performing, which is evident to everyone who hears her play.
Julian MacDonough is an award-winning drummer and educator residing in Bellingham, Washington. Besides being a full time musician, Julian is also the artistic director of the Whatcom Jazz Music Arts Center. He performs regularly with many groups as either a bandleader or a sideman, including the swing era bands of Solomon Douglas. He loves and enjoys performing all styles of jazz from traditional, to swing, bebop, and modern. He appears on over 70 recordings, performs over 200 times a year, and keeps busy teaching at the Whatcom Jazz Music Arts Center’s high school combo programs. Julian supplies a large portion of the sizzle and energy which are an essential component of the dance music of Solomon Douglas.
